Spot Gen3 Satellite GPS Messenger (Personal Tracker)

Postby Pinikula » July 10th, 2016, 4:22 pm

About a month or two ago, I was in a conversation about the Spot tracker with wileycoyote. Friday evening (bike night), Bob commented that he saw them at Cabela's. I ran the following info by wiley and he suggested I post here for those who might be interested.

Anyway, Spot Gen3 Satellite GPS Messenger (personal tracker) is on sale for $149 in two places with a 50% mail-in rebate:

[ ] Spot Gen3 (
[ ] Cabela's * (

* Cabela's will also give an additional 10% in points to Cabela's Club Members. (SPR store doesn't currently have any in stock, so would have to order in-store or via their website). Cabela's "sale" runs through July 31.

I was looking at the service piece online to see if one could pay for the active months of use (i.e., late spring through early fall), but that's not an's a year-long commitment whether you pay once annually or monthly).

Bottom line, the mail-in rebate drops the price to $75 for the unit; then you just have the annual membership ($149.99/yr or $14.99/mo).

I second this, especially if you have loved ones that might be interested in making sure you're safe while on a trip.

Or if you happen to hit a deer on a road in the middle of no where... works well.

Delorme inreach is another choice. Can do texting through the satellite and can be turned off during winter months. However in the end it looked like the cost would have been about the same for me but I think I'll get one because of the texting ability when there is no cell service.
