Corvallis Bike Night

Postby Troubadour » February 27th, 2011, 12:41 pm

Not a group, not a club, no membership, no fees, no motto, no discrimination and no obligation.

Bike night is an opportunity to meet some of the other riders you wave to everyday on your way to work, you pass on a weekend ride and you nod to at the gas station. A chance to share stories, experiences, ask questions...offer advice or just chat. Relax after work or school, get out of the house, enjoy good food in a friendly atmosphere and meet new people sharing an interest in motorcycling. We always discuss, plan and setup weekend rides. If you are wanting to ride with a group this is your chance, come meet the faces from the forum and friends ready to help.

Everyone is welcome, no matter how long you’ve been riding, if you’re experienced, just learning or want to learn. Whether you ride a sportbike, a cruiser, a standard, touring, trike, scooter, or moped.

Just stop by…

Great turnout and it didn't rain. Met some new attendees, checked out their bikes and a good time was had by all.

Good to see everyone who came out and hope to see those who couldn't make it soon.

EDIT: location decided.

For the May 4th Corvallis Bike night... Albany folks should meet up at 5:00pm in Albany (stands up by 5:15pm) at the entrance to Bryant Park for a mini-group ride to bike night. From there we can take Riverview into town (plus a short trip down hwy 34). If the group meets and doesn't want that route, we can always change it.

EDIT: to avoid the high traffic and merging on HWY34 at Riverview, we will most likely join Troubadour in Tangent and take the "back way" into Peoria. That way will use a light to get onto HWY34, and then right back off... much more relaxed. The ride in will be a bit longer, but most likely easier. We can still meet at Bryant though.

EDIT EDIT:
Time changed to meet at 5pm, leave again by 5:15pm so we have time to ride which ever way we want! Time spent in good company anyway....

A fantastic turnout last night, there were a lot of bikes and several new faces. Even a new bike fresh off the showroom floor, a couple of mopeds and a Ruckus.
Hope all the new riders weren't overwhelmed with the crowd and were able to get in on the conversations and enjoy yourselves. Judging from the attendance it looks like spring is finally here. :D

Bike Night this Wednesday June 1st

Any newbies not familiar with Bike Night or American Dream Pizza here's a quick rundown. Come on in and get in line to order what you want, they offer pizza by the slice, mini, medium and large as well as salad and calzones. Most of us order a slice, a mini or calzone and a drink. Give them your name, they'll call it out several times when your order is ready and bring it to you, give them a wave so they can find you. Find a seat and don't be shy, we are on the south side of the restaurant along the middle wall of helmets, it's going to be crowded but someone will let you in. You are welcome to listen or please join in any conversation anytime. It gets loud so we'll sit and eat then start moving out to the parking lot to make room for more arrivals and to check out the bikes.
Any questions or still not sure, come on in and ask for Brad, I'll welcome you personally and show you the ropes. There are many regulars here who I'm sure will play ambassador as well and post their names.

Just stop by, say hi and have fun.

I'll be there. Not sure if I'll cage it or not. Liz is talking about coming with me in the cage if it's raining. We'll see.

Etchrated and I will both be there... but most likely in a cage unless the rain goes away. We will be heading to the improv comedy night in town afterwards and will be heading home in the dark and rain... not as much fun on bikes.

See you all there....

What time do the festivities kick off?

And I invited my new neighbors who look to ride some kind of giant scooter. I assume two wheels is enough?

Any two wheels work just fine... as long as it isn't a recumbent bicycle (I might have to knock you over if you come on one) The fun starts as early as 5pm or whenever people get there... Official start time is 6pm and it goes until people get tired of talking. I will be arriving late since I have another commitment that starts at 6pm as well. See you all tomorrow night!

I want to come but we'll see. If it's raining heavy, I may not want to take a trek up and down. My cage's battery is dead, so it's a bike for me tomorrow for transport, rain or shine.

At least I got her to go on a night when it's supposed to rain. This way I don't have to waste an evening of good weather in a cage.

Damn. It's a good thing I got The Hungarian outta there when I did. She woulda killed me if we had stayed until 10. She had a good time tho. Thanks Etchrated, for taking her in for another beer when you saw her eyes glaze over.

Craigslist advertisers,

If you have a bike to sell, what better way to advertise it than to bring it down to Corvallis Bike Night and show it to the 40 plus active riders in attendance who are all interested in bikes and probably know another half dozen people who are interested in bikes? We all buy and sell bikes all the time, you could be showing your bike to over 240 potential buyers in one night.

Interested in buying a bike? Come on down and let us know what you're looking for, I'm sure one of the 40 plus people in attendance knows of someone who has a bike for sale and may have just the bike you're looking for.

Maybe you're a solo rider looking for fellow riders, come on down and say hi, we're always looking for other motorcyclists to join us on rides. No matter what you ride.

If you're none of the above and would rather sit at home flagging a Craigslist ad for an event that has been posted for over four years, brought so many riders together, created life long friendships and help create this forum as well as other forums and group rides, then please go ahead, we'll still wave at you even if you won't.

You realize it takes several flaggers to get an advert pulled right?
Im no fan of flaggers but if you posted in the bikes for sale section it honestly shouldnt be there. just my .02

I am planning on attending myself however, so you are free to give me shit about it then. ;)

right, there are ways to set yourself up as a one man flagger army, and also the more times you get flagged the few flaggers it takes to get a posting pulled.
You have two options, continute to post in spite of the opposition, or find a new way to get your message out. (or both, is that a third option?). I generally find it too exhausting to try to swim upstream.

Im kinda shy actually, didnt know a soul there, am under geared, my bike is a piece and I have to admit, Im a "cager" at heart. Im think Im more at home at a car meet where people talk about things like "forged internals" and "turbo upgrades" rather than fork oil and chain drives. Not that I wouldnt enjoy that, but, like a fish out of water, its just out of my element.

I might have to stick to trying to catch a group ride before I attend another bike night. Unfortunately thats probably not going to happen until a few more things get done to the bike.

Group rides really help a lot. It gives riders a chance to get to know a few individuals better & start forming friendships. That of course makes Bike Nights easier...especially for the more reserved folks. Believe me...I know. My first Corvallis Bike Night was pretty overwhelming & I, like you, felt a little bit like a fish out of water. I don't find it easy making new friends, but I'll tell you what...the folks here that I've formed friendships with are some of the best people around. The problem with Corvallis BN (for folks like you & I) is that so many people attend, it's hard to find your spot in the group. I'd like to invite you to a Eugene (this Friday) or Albany (3rd Wednesday) Bike Night. They're typically smaller crowds & MUCH easier to strike up conversations with people.

But for getting time in smaller groups, group rides really are the best way. What kind of things need to happen to the bike?

I've been to one Corvallis Bike Night and one Albany Bike Night. I agree with Wiley, start with a smaller group, such as Albany. When I went to the Albany one, there was what, 10 people there? Corvallis was overwhelming with at least 30-40 or so. I don't know a durn thing about bikes other than kinda how to ride one, so a bike conversation would be particularly uninteresting to me.
Whoever is in charge of making sure I don't do stupid sh*t is fired!

Thank you both for the feedback. The trick may be not to tackle the big crowd as a whole but consider the many smaller groups mulling about. There are several groups discussing many subjects from bikes to cars to group rides and more. The hardest part is trying to remember everyone's name, which comes in time. (I still forget).

Hope you don't give up, check out Albany and Eugene bike night then give it another try.

Wiley, I need a back tire, I need a valve adjustment and I need to make or buy a YICS tool so I can get a proper sync on my carbs. That will get me in the ballpark but after it goes deeper with a starter clutch needing work and a grabby wet clutch. I found a parts bike today thats worth the cash but Im cash poor right now.

I got my feet wet again with this bike but I know its not the right bike for me anyway so Im dragging my heals on putting anything more into it right now. Im keeping my eye open for the right sport bike that "needs work".

Troub, dont get me wrong, I still enjoyed myself but I think I went in with a different expectation and was kind of off balance right off the bat. Besides, Im alot more fun with a few beers in me, but riding 30 miles to drink and ride home seemed ...counter-productive!
Im a Taurus. Which end of the bull would you prefer?

PTS Come to coffe on a Saturday morning....its much more mellow...maybe cause nobody has had their coffee yet..and its smaller and more diverse group.. I don't miss one if I can help it.

And as for pieces ... if it paid for its priceless...and its yours... just call it rat inspired, cafe'd, or work in process, we know people who have several works in process...ask Troubador for a pic of the Mad Max Honda at the swapmeet..That thing was the Gnarly....
