I scavenged a Givi top case from a wrecked bike...even has holes from a breach load from Benton counties finest...
Got it somewhat mounted for my Cali trip, but the bracket failed. So I remade one Sunday and loaded up the bike to see how it would do ripping up quartzville yesterday. It's very planted and balanced feeling under normal to slightly aggressive riding, but when I start ripping on it, the front is just a little light lol

The view from the top yesterday, and yes...I always take a picture right there.

ha!! sounds like fun

looks good btw. lots o storage. Where's Quartzville? ...gotta look that one up. Great view.

:edit: Just googled it and by-jove (that's old man lingo) I was on that road in August! Only went a little past the Dam though. Fun road with lots of twisties but also with it's share of ruts. I'll have to go further up next time.

The farther you go, the better the road gets... sorta. Once you crest and come back down (after the picture spot Trav87 uses) I think the pavement is the best. Good thing, because that is all downhill.

quartzville ends at forest service road 11, and that goes over to 22 via twisty single lane. I usually head towards 20 on 22 and cut off at forest road 2067, I think it's the lava lakes meadow, or lava meadow turn. There is a couple miles of decent gravel road and then some great pavement that comes out at the lava lakes snow park.
I think the good pavement starts just a few miles up NF-11.

That's my friends CBR. He is getting ready to move to Hawaii and needed to store it with me until he's ready to shop it over...or just keep it here for when he visits. And yes, that's the can o' tuna...it's for sale and down here now!

When he dropped it off last Sunday he told me to take it out for a spin so he could finally hear what his bike sounds like when someone gets on it...so I did. I'm sure the neighbors enjoyed hearing it also lol

I managed to get almost every last mile out of the sprockets...
Image
That one never really "fit" right, seemed too thin for the chain. Slapped some good ol' fashioned steel sprockets on this morning and put close to 400 miles on. Much better!!
Pretty cool scenery today

Damn, my chain & sprockets were bad, but not THAT bad. Was that an aluminum sprocket? I also think I saw you mention something about a 520 conversion. Am I imagining things? If it was, did you go with the 520 conversion again?

The previous owner half assed it big time  It was a Vortex 520 sprocket with a DID 530 chain and stock front sprocket...no wonder I ate through that sprocket.

I ordered up steel 530 sprockets and chain last week. I'm not concerned about saving a few ounces of weight just to sacrifice longevity. That and my ham fisted throttle hand says to get the stronger stuff lol

Oh, ok. That makes sense....well, that it was the PO & not you. A 520 conversion on that bike makes no sense & half assing it makes even less sense. I'm glad you noticed it before it was too late.

Well, ultimately "too late" is when the chain comes off at 70 MPH & rips everything apart, including his leg. But yes, really it would've been better to notice it before it started shedding teeth.

Latest mod has been improving fueling and timing. Had the ECU flashed by 2 Wheel Dynoworks. Managed to gain a few hp, but I was mainly interested in ditching the Ivan's Performance items that were trying to trick the ECU, and the dynojet ignition module. Ohhhhhh my what a difference. Since there are members who poo poo on back road shenanigans, I won't say that it'll loft a tire with ease, but I will say 1rst through 3rd are completely woken up ;)
