Monday Night Rides 2017

Postby RickRick » May 29th, 2017, 8:11 pm

I would like to get the Monday Night Rides started again this year. I will also need help in doing this. Below is a list of upcoming Monday Nights. If you would like to lead one, please let me know via PM and I will add you to the list. I will lead some of them but I will be traveling for work and cannot do some of them. In addition, if you have a route or destination let me know and I can add it to the list

Monday night rides meet up at the Philomath Chevron at 6pm. Kickstands up at 6:15pm and rides will last between one and two hours. They will usually start at the Chevron but may end at different location (Example Alsea Falls loop Start at Philomath Chevron - End at Alpine School)

I'll talk to the planning committee about some of the open dates. And of course, I hope to join in some of the others. I've had a seriously LONG & BUSY winter.

Should be an interesting ride tomorrow night. They have been paving hwy 34 and are starting to do roadwork on hwy 20 tonight as well. I will try to assess the situation and have a good route planned for tomorrow!

The weather for the inaugural 2017 MNR looks lovely. Hope the route is not too mucked up with construction and the like.

Can't make this one, sadly. Have fun!

Great ride last night! Only had to wait a few minutes at the construction on Hwy 20 just west of Philomath.

Next Monday's ride will be led by Mel.

Weather's been on edge over here at the office in Sweet Home all day - so it's been tough to tell what it's going to do (or what it's doing over on that side of the valley)
Late getting this in, but then - the rain didn't start till a little bit ago as well.
I'm going to call it for this evening. Hope to see everyone out and about soon, and have a warm, dry Monday evening :)

It was a great ride. I've been dreaming about riding that road for years. Was an honor to ride it with you all. Can't thank you all enough (especially rickrick) for being up for turning it back in early. Really helped me out with my fuel issues. (I had a 1/4 gallon left in the tank) I'll definitly be looking into a way to carry some extra fuel.
Hoping to get my bike tuned into where is should be soon and take the long way around with everyone soon!

I'm gonna be around tomorrow and would like to do a Monday Night Ride, if anyone else is interested and someone else will lead. I was thinking Mary's Peak would be a nice run. Any takers?

Monday Night Ride is on! I'll be at the Philomath Chevron at around 5:45. Kick stands up at 6:15 PM. We'll head up Mary's Peak first & then decide where to go from there.

Ok folks, 7/17/17, we are riding a clockwise loop out of Brownsville, through Sodaville, and flying along the the top of the ridge line. We will then descend back down towards Waterloo before climbing again and skirting around Sweet Home and over to Holley. Then we will do an out and back on Upper Calapooia Rd. Then hop on Hwy 228 for a short bit and then catch Northern drive just outside of Crawfordsville, and finish back at the Start at The Dari Mart in Brownsville. This ride is filled with twist and turns, dips and climbs. 62 miles of smiles. This ride is KSU at 6:15 from the Dari Mart in Brownsville.

Interested in leading a ride? Please let me know... there are a number of Monday nights left and this is a great opportunity to learn how to lead group rides with a generally small group.

Thanks all for attending last nights ride. It was a great route... thank Polar Bear for leading.

We will be working on our group riding techniques so we don't lose people in the future...
==Just a reminder of a few key points for group rides...
==Ride your own ride
==Do not turn without making sure the person behind you sees where you are turning and turns on their signal.
== You are responsible for the people behind you on the ride.
==Know the route. So if you do get separated, you can find your way back to the group.
==If you decide to leave the ride, let someone know. That way we are not searching for other riders in the ditches along side of the road.
==Be sure the individual who is sweeping knows the route.

A part of doing these rides is to help other learn to lead rides. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

Next week we will be back to the West side meet up location at Philomath Chevron.

Thanks again for everyone coming.

OK, so it’s a short notice. Be flexible. Be spontaneous. Who wants to start Monday Night Rides, 2018? Anybody out there ready? If there’s a positive response before 4:30, I’ll be at the usual Philomath Chevron/McD’s at 5:30, ready for KSU anytime thereafter. Route TBD by those who show.

As our buddy Q would say, “Come on! You KNOW you want to!”

Tonight was bad a bad night, not just because of short notice, but because I have plans later. That said, if this becomes regular, I'd like to join for a few (assuming the planning committee approves of course).

Would enjoy seeing you on some of them, WC. It’s been way too long. Wish you could have joined us this evening, as we had a very pleasant run up to Mary’s peak. The road was mostly clear, with the usual occasionally gravelled corner and some green spots, but we made the trip without incident. It was great to get out with a new, “riding partner” for the evening.

Zman, thanks for a great evening! Let’s do it again, soon!

It was a really nice ride indeed.
It was great meeting dustpan and meandering our way up and down the peak.
Felt great to get some fresh air and build some confidence in my bike.
I am defiantly up for bring a regular on this. Lets see if we can spread the word and get some others to join up. (i'm thinking we should have talked to those other 2 bikes that showed up on the peak and followed back into town, they stuck with me till corvallis)
The more the merrier!

Zman, you’re absolutely right about talking to the other riders we saw last night. Unfortunately, I flunked the, “Ambassador Training Program” a long time ago. I usually don’t do much talking to those I don’t know. But yes, absolutely, the more the merrier.

Work has been pretty crazy this year and when I started the Monday Night Rides (MNR) early a couple years ago by summer, no one was showing up. I was out of town the last three weeks on Monday and have one more to go. Most likely I will start them up after next week.

Feel free to organize amongst yourselves!!!

Weather should be awesome, so here’s a suggestion for Monday the 18th:

In honor of our Southern friends, I suggest meeting at the Towne Pump on Hwy. 126 in Veneta. Head west on 126 to Mapleton, and north on Hwy. 36. Stop for a break at the rest stop near the Slides and Triangle Lake, then proceed on 36 to Poodle Creek Rd, which will return us to 126. East on 126 for a brief run, and we’re back at Towne Pump.

The loop is about 80 miles, should take a couple hours to complete. I suggest KSU at 6:00 sharp. As always, I’m open to suggestions and/or improvements. If you’re interested, post here. I’m not interested in doing it alone. If anyone in the upper reaches of our area want to meet up to ride down together, that would be great. We can arrange a when/where to accommodate anyone who wants to go. Looking forward to lots of responses. Shiny side UP!

Oooooooooo. I'll talk to the planning committee.

Would really like to see you there, WC. We’ll even let you lead!
Zman: If you would like to ride down together, we can meet at Philomath Chevron/McDonald’s. It’s about an hour to Veneta, so I would suggest a KSU time of around 4:30. Let me know what you think. Sorry I missed your ride today, I didn’t check back often enough.
