Dual sport exploring?

Postby st. Mats » May 15th, 2018, 10:13 am

Anybody interested in exploring between hwy 20 and hwy126? I've been up there a couple times with Slodave and Doggitter but there's still more to explore.

I would be up for doing that sometime. Although I'm in the midst of travel season for work.--- only a month left though.

Maybe June 2nd or 3rd would work. I'll double check my 'schedule' and come up with a loose plan for a route.

I think I could make either work, but sundays are usually less busy for me.

Are we thinking east or west side of the valley?

Did you ever check this one out (from 2015):

The route from Fall cr to Cougar and then going up past Blue River reservoir looks good. I've been on sections of those roads in a car, but have never connected them. Do you think the summit will be passable via the Old Santiam Wagon rd? There's still an inch of snow at Hoodoo's base so there could be a lot more any place the trail is shaded. I'm up for an adventure even if we have to turn around.

..I did most of the route from eugene to sisters a few years ago, but skipped the return section going toward sweet home. I would be up for it again, or anything else really.

Here is another, but from the west side of the valley, that I haven't been on in a while:

I'm thinking east side of the valley. Either starting via Upper Calapooia Dr near Holly (it used to be closed by Weyerhoser, but it was open last year) or starting on FS 15 at the upper end of Blue River reservoir. My initial desire is really to criss-cross the area between FS15, FS1509, FS2022, 1598 etc. We could either loop it and come out on HWY 20 above Sweet Home or come back the way we came. Either way, there's going to be some pavement involved. I'll try to get maps of the area, if I don't already. Sundays are generally better for me as well.

Doggitter, SloDave, and I did the route above and ended up by Big Lake after riding through some heavy volcanic pumic trails. It was a hoot, but a challenge.

Sounds good to me.. I might be able to recruit another rider or two to join us.

Any chance the Green Mountain lookout tower might be on the route? I've been meaning to go check it out for awhile: https://goo.gl/maps/suF8adoZD9U2

It looks we can access the lookout via Potts Creek (no road number) off of RD 2820 so we might as well add it to the route. Of course it all depends on gates being open and such.

Just checking in to see if this is still on...

..if not I may have to chase a few beemer's to the coast for free food:

The Eugene adventure ride group will leave at 9:00am on Sunday, June 3rd from EMCWOR and the street ride group will leave at 10:00am from EMCWOR. The adventure route is ~130 miles in length, while the street route is ~115 miles in length.

No charge to attend. All brands welcome. Please register so that we can plan food appropriately.

Don't stress it.. my schedule is pretty flexible. I can do either day, or push it out a few weeks. Always up for a good ride!

It was a fun ride. We were not able to get all the way to the lookout because of reasons. :-) Also, explored some over grown roads and had some great views.

Here is the general route I was considering for Bohemia to Diamond peak / lake: https://goo.gl/maps/FXphK7fpkfw

..if you hold the shift key while dragging/viewing satellite view in google maps on chrome, you can get a feeling for the topography; I tried to generate a route that followed ridgelines as much as possible, but have no idea if anything past Hills Crk reservoir is open / accessible (I think I've done most of it up to that point at one time or another).

Unfortunately it will probably be a few weeks before I have the time to try the rest of this.

Looks like a good route. We'd better start early for the 280 mile round trip. I might be able to do it towards the end of July. All my weekends are spoken for until then.
