Chain maintenance

Postby Cruiser68 » May 16th, 2019, 5:09 pm

HI all,

Well, I am slowly getting used to chain maintenance. How often do you all lube/adjust your chains? Same on long trips? I must admit I have been spoiled by belt and shaft driven bikes....

I try to do it every 1,000 miles. On long trips I try to do the same, but sometimes I let it go longer depending on conditions.

Lube every 1k miles or so. A good lube will last awhile. When it looks drier it needs more.
Adjust it when I do the oil usually (but check it when I lube).
If you need to adjust it more and more frequently to keep the tension correct it means the chain is about done.
Replace the sprockets with the chain. Chain is the expensive part and worn sprockets can accelerate chain wear.

Thanks guys!

Using a Honda branded chain lube...seems to last well. When it runs out I may look at others. I have adjusted chain 2x times in 3500 miles. So far so good.
